Recovery support for adults

SmartSober is for people aged 18 or older. It offers reflection tools, recovery resources, optional peer conversations and support features. It is not a clinician, treatment program or emergency service. It does not diagnose a condition, verify relapse or continuously monitor your safety. For immediate danger, use your local emergency services.

Your choices and information

Review the privacy policy and each feature’s consent screen before using it. Choose what to share and keep your device and private invitation links secure. A sobriety name is a pseudonym, not a guarantee of anonymity. Do not enter another person’s information unless you are choosing them for the relevant support feature and have a legitimate reason to contact them.

Peer conversations

Use peer conversations for respectful recovery support. Do not harass, threaten, solicit, share outside contact details, arrange drug transactions or request sexual contact. Names and messages are checked before delivery using automated screening. Screening can make mistakes or be unavailable, and a conversation may be paused for review.

You can leave, block or report a conversation. Reports may include the selected message or recent conversation evidence for the owner moderator. A paused conversation can resume only through the app’s review and consent process. An owner support visit requires both participants’ separate agreement. Moderation is not available around the clock, and another member may not be available when you request a conversation. Access may be restricted for abuse or safety concerns.

My Person and personal outreach

Your person must accept an invitation before automatic check-ins can begin. Review the rules and sharing choices, and keep contact details current. Check-ins depend on an active accepted plan, current app data and an available delivery service. Missing data, network problems or provider delays can prevent or delay a message. An alert does not establish a diagnosis or prove that its recipient read it.

Either person can stop future plan messages. A message already sent to a provider may still arrive. SMS has separate texting terms, including consent, STOP and HELP. Personal texts and emails prepared in the app are separate: you review and complete sending in Messages or your email app. Opening a composer does not confirm delivery.

Apple Health and AI

Apple Health access is optional and read-only. Separate permission is needed to upload selected summaries for My Person rules. Health patterns and missing readings are not proof of relapse or a diagnosis.

The AI companion uses OpenAI after the relevant disclosure and consent. AI responses can be inaccurate. Use your judgment and consult a qualified professional for medical or treatment decisions. Voice requires microphone permission and available service access. The companion cannot contact a person or emergency service for you.

Activities and outside resources

Explore shows public listings based on the ZIP you choose. Confirm schedules, costs, suitability and registration with the organizer. Listings are screened but do not guarantee an alcohol-free venue. Recovery resources link to independent directories and publishers; SmartSober does not guarantee their availability or endorse every statement on an outside site. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use those services.

Data sources and credits

ZIP and place information uses Zippopotam.us, made available under the Open Database License. Individual contents use the Database Contents License. Zippopotam.us adapts GeoNames data, available under Creative Commons Attribution. SmartSober uses this information to find the area associated with your chosen ZIP.

Event listings identify their source and link to the organizer or registration page. Dates and locations may change. The source providers are independent of SmartSober and do not endorse the app.

Apple subscriptions, when offered

The app and Apple purchase screen show the available subscription, localized price, renewal period and any introductory offer for which Apple confirms eligibility. Review those details before confirming. Do not assume that a trial is available or that access is unlimited. Service availability and usage limits still apply.

The planned SmartSober Plus offer includes 30 voice minutes per paid subscription month, with up to five minutes per conversation. An eligible free trial includes one five-minute voice preview during its first 24 hours. Unused voice minutes do not roll over. The app checks the current allowance before each conversation. Apple Sandbox and private testing access are separate from a paid membership.

Apple manages payment and subscription renewal. Use Apple’s subscription settings to manage or cancel a subscription, and the app’s restore control to check an existing purchase. Follow the cancellation timing shown by Apple to avoid the next renewal. Deleting SmartSober or deleting your SmartSober account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Refund requests are handled through Apple’s applicable process.

Deletion and availability

Choose Delete my account in Profile for the account-deletion process. Local data is reset after server confirmation. Some security, safety, opt-out and billing records remain as explained in the privacy policy. The separate peer-only deletion and My Person plan-removal controls have narrower effects. Contact support if you cannot reach the account-deletion control.

Features can be unavailable because of connection problems, maintenance, service limits or configuration. A saved plan, a notification permission or an accepted provider request does not prove a message was delivered. SmartSober is not a replacement for a personal emergency plan or another reliable way to reach help.
