SmartSober iPhone beta
An AI companion for reflection, in text or voice
The SmartSober companion gives you a place to put thoughts into words. It is clearly identified as AI. Peer conversations with other people are a separate choice in Connect.
Make the setup feel familiar
Choose a name for your companion, then select a voice if you want to talk aloud. Review the voice and microphone choices before starting. You can also type. Voice availability and usage limits are checked in the app; SmartSober does not promise unlimited conversation time.
Memory is a choice
The app offers a limited saved note you can choose to include in companion conversations. This is not unrestricted access to everything you have done in SmartSober. Review the note and sharing choices in the app rather than assuming the companion knows your journal, Health information, contacts or peer conversations.
Know where your conversation goes
With your consent, companion requests go through SmartSober to OpenAI for a response. The companion service does not save a transcript in our database; provider data-handling policies still apply. Voice has its own permission and privacy flow. The website privacy policy explains what is stored and shared.
Keep people part of your support
An AI reply can be useful for reflection, but it can also be wrong. The companion is not a person with lived experience, a clinician, a sponsor or an emergency service. It cannot contact your person or dispatch help. Use My Person or peer connection when you want to reach another person.
How to get started in the app
- Open the companion from Connect.
- Choose its name and review the optional memory.
- Type, or choose a voice and allow the microphone when ready.
Connecting SmartSober’s public AI tools in another service does not connect to your private iPhone companion history or saved note.
