SmartSober iPhone beta

My Person: a recovery check-in plan with someone you trust

My Person is someone you choose, such as a partner, family member or trusted friend. They do not need the SmartSober app. They accept a private invitation and review the check-in plan before automatic alerts can begin.

Agree on the plan together

Choose how your person will recognize you, add their contact details and select your rules. A plan can use missed journal check-ins, time since the app was last opened, or optional sleep and resting-heart-rate summaries. Your person must accept. The app’s saved status tells you whether the plan is connected, paused or waiting for acceptance.

Automatic alerts come from SmartSober

When an accepted, active plan meets a chosen rule and delivery is available, SmartSober can ask your person to check in by email or text. The alert is generic. It does not include your journal entry or private chat, publish a diagnosis or say that you have relapsed. Texting requires the recipient’s explicit SMS consent and confirmation.

A personal message still comes from you

You can also choose to reach out whenever you want. Write and review your message in SmartSober, then finish sending through Messages or your email app using your own account. This is separate from an automatic plan alert. Opening a composer does not prove a message was sent or read.

Health information needs separate permission

Apple Health access happens on your iPhone. Sharing selected daily summaries with the My Person plan is a separate choice. Sleep and heart-rate changes have many possible explanations. Missing or delayed syncing can prevent an alert, and delivery can be delayed or missed. You and your person can stop future messages.

How to get started in the app

  1. Choose My Person and enter someone you trust.
  2. Review rules, sharing choices and the invitation.
  3. Your person accepts, then you check that the saved plan is active.

My Person is a support plan, not emergency monitoring. A delivered notification does not mean your person has read it or can respond.
