SmartSober iPhone beta

Peer recovery support, one conversation at a time

Sometimes you want to talk with someone who understands this part of your life. SmartSober Connect is a space to request a conversation with another adult member, using your sobriety name.

By the SmartSober team · Product information updated October 3, 2026

Ask to talk, or choose to listen

Open Connect and request a conversation. Another available member can choose to join. Members who turn on connection alerts and permit iPhone notifications may be notified even when the app is closed. There must be someone willing and available on the other end. A request is not a promise of an immediate reply.

Your sobriety name is how peers know you

A sobriety name lets you participate without displaying your legal name to another member. This is pseudonymous support, not a promise of complete anonymity or end-to-end encryption. SmartSober stores the messages needed to run the conversation. Read the privacy policy before joining.

Clear boundaries protect the conversation

Messages are screened before sharing. Contact-detail sharing, harassment, drug transactions and sexual solicitation are not allowed. Members can report, block or leave. A safety pause can require review and both people’s agreement before a conversation resumes. Talking honestly about recovery is welcome, and automated screening can make mistakes.

How to get started in the app

  1. Choose Connect and ask to talk.
  2. Wait for another member to join.
  3. Use the conversation menu whenever you need to leave, block or report.

Peers are not assigned sponsors or clinicians. The community is not staffed emergency support, and moderation is not available around the clock.

Before you join

SmartSober is in private iPhone beta and is not yet publicly available on the App Store. Join the waiting list for testing opportunities and launch news. The current private beta is complimentary. We plan a seven-day free trial followed by $9.99 per month at public launch, subject to the final App Store offer. Joining the waitlist does not start a trial or authorize a charge.
